Anahil Suarez is an accomplished violinist with extensive experience in orchestra, chamber music, mariachi, and orchestral conducting. She has performed across the United States, Mexico, and Russia.
Anahil began her formal music education at the Colegio de San Juan Siglo XXI in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, studying under violinist Joaquin Ruiz. In the summer of 2007, she was invited to join the Chamber Orchestra of the International Opera Company of Tampico. She later continued her studies at the University of Texas at Brownsville (UTB) on music department scholarships, where she studied violin with the distinguished conductor and violinist Dr. Martha Placeres.
During her time at UTB, Anahil studied abroad in Vienna, Austria, enriching her knowledge of music history and opera literature. In 2013, as a member of the UTB Mariachi Ocelotitlan, she had the extraordinary opportunity to travel to Saint Petersburg, Russia, where she performed a series of mariachi concerts.
In 2015, she won the UTB Concerto/Aria competition in the orchestral conducting category, leading to her conducting Richard Wagner's “Die Meistersinger” with the UTB Symphony Orchestra. Anahil continued her education at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, studying violin under Puerto Rican violist Dr. Joel Pagan and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Music Education with concentration in Strings/Orchestra.
Currently, Anahil is a proud member of Mariachi Margaritas, an all-female mariachi band based in Brownsville, Texas. In this role, she has performed alongside world renowned groups such as Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlan, Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan, Mariachi Los Camperos, as well as at mariachi festivals and clinics with Mariachi Sol de Mexico supporting the promotion of mariachi education, especially in the Lower Rio Grande Valley.
Anahil has had the honor of accompanying celebrated mariachi artists, including Pablo Montero, Ana Barbara, Lupita Infante, and since 2019, she has collaborated with Angela Aguilar on several Texas and U.S. tours, performing in notable cities like California, Arizona, Las Vegas, Chicago, and New York. In 2021, she was part of a performance with Pepe Aguilar, Angela Aguilar, and Leonardo Aguilar during the famous ring walk for the Canelo vs. Saunders fight at AT&T Stadium, in front of an audience of over 73,000.
Her contributions to the mariachi community were recognized in 2021 when she received a certificate of commendation from the City of Los Angeles for her dedication to enhancing the culture of mariachi among women, particularly during the Annual International Mariachi Women’s Festival in Los Angeles. In the summer of 2024, Anahil was honored to serve as one of the clinicians at the Texas Southmost College Mariachi Camp, where she shared her knowledge and passion for mariachi music.
Anahil Suarez currently serves as the Head Mariachi Director at Rivera Early College High School, where she continues to inspire and educate the next generation of musicians.
